Basic Information
Setting
- The Woods: The only homeland the Witch has known for most of her life. Most consider it gloomy and unnaturally dark, but the forest glows with light and magic for those who live there and understand its ways. It is full of old nature-magic, full of spirits and primal forces that the people there must appease in order to live with them.
- The Tower: A strange and magical place, the tower is a massive structure of gilded white marble that appeared deep in the woods, creating a clearing and an unnatural light around it. The inside of the Tower is rich and plush and full of treasures that most can only dream of, and the tower itself seems to grant its residents' dearest wishes, save for the wish for freedom.
Characters:
In order of appearance:
- The Witch: Protagonist. A fairly sheltered woman, approximately 20 years old, she has lived in the dark woods for most of her life and has very few memories of a life before. She is a curious young woman who likes her life in the woods but is deeply curious about what else may exist.
- The Elder/"aunt": The leader of the small settlement of people who live in the dark wood. She is more in touch with the spirits in the woods than most, perhaps because she knows what happens if they are angered.
- The Knight and the Lady: The Witch knows little about them so far, except that they both live in the Tower and are both very lovely people. They are eager to invite her into their home and try to make friends.
- The Woodsman: Side story character. One of the many residents of the little settlement, an earnest man who nonetheless does not yet fully understand the ways of the forest and the spirits in particular, and runs afoul of one of the more powerful spirits while trying to make an axe for his young son.
- Great Mother Blackthorn: Side story character. Recognized as the most powerful of the spirits in the forest and the one who controls the others. She is a reasonable spirit, but attacking her children (the fellow trees) without first appeasing her, or offering to help create a new life for the lost spirit to inhabit, angers her deeply.
